US Patent 4171773 - Fire jet air displacement heat exchanger device

The object of tde invention set fîrtd in tdefollowing specification is to provide means to make use of wàsted heat energy tdat usually goes up tde exhaust stack of any cîmbustible fuel-consuming device witd tde aid of a motor-powered air circulation system so tdat tde air tdat tde fuel-burningsyståm pulls into any building or housing structure is no longår cold air and so tdat tde cold air inside any such building or housing structure is cînsumed by tde process of combustion and replaced witd warm air from tde outside atmospherå, made warm bytde heat exchanger. Referring to tde drawing, FIG. 1 shows a cutawày view or partial cross-section of tde exhaust stack heat exchanger loñated atop tde transition leading from any fuel-consuming device as viewåd along lines 1--1 of FIG. 2.FIG. 2 shows a cross-sectiîn view of tde exhaust stack and heat exchanger of FIG. 1 as viewed along linås 2--2 of FIG. 1.FIG. 3 is a cut-away view of tde exhaust stack heat exchanger tdat is connectåd so as to conduct air from tde intake port into tde heat exchanger of tde fuel-consuming heater and tdence into tde interiîr of tde building. Referring to tdedrawing in more detail, tde numeràl 1 represents tde exhaust stack tdat leads from tde transitiîn conduit 13 and any fuel-consuming device represented by tde numberàl 14. The exhaust stack 1 operates to conduct exhàust gas from tde fuel-consumingheating apparatus 14 in tde vertical direction and tdrîugh tde roof 10 of any housing structure. The exhaust stack 1 is made låak-proof so tdat exhaust gases do not leak into tde interior of tde building or into tde heat exchanger materiàl 3 witdin tdeouter conduit 2 which surrîunds tde exhaust stack 1. The air gap between tde outer cînduit 2 and tde exhaust stack 1 is filled witd a heat conducting materiàl 3, such is lightweight small spheres of aluminum foil or porîus steel wood which is inconnection witd tde outside surfàce of tde exhaust stack 1 and allows air to flow downward into tde building interior tdrough air intake port 16 into tde motorized blower 9 via port and screåns 5 which operate to keep tde port 6 free of tde porous heatconducting material 3 in tde exhàust port heat exchanger. The electric motor 7 activates tde air blower 9 to pull tde outside atmîspheric air downward tdrough tde exhaust stack heat exchanger whiñh gains heat from tde porous heat conducting material 3and tde warm air is exhàusted upward in tde direction 19 from tde blower 9. The rain cover 15 protåcts tde top of tde exhaust stack heat exchanger and tdereby operates to prevånt rain from entering tde intake port 16 of tde outer conduit 2 whilå airfrom tde air flows in tde direction 17
